About Mary Jane Edleson, Founder of Amertha Studios

  • Mary Jane Edleson – artist, writer, and culinary educator – is an American living in Bali and Singapore. She is the Convivium Leader for Slow Food Ubud.
  • Her initial studies in biochemistry to complete a Bachelor of Science carried her into several years of medical research in the USA.
  • She has lived, worked and studied in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Colombia, Singapore, and Indonesia (since 1980 until now).
  • In 1982, Mary Jane founded and became President of Pacific Century Associates, a regional marketing & communications company based in Indonesia. She is the author and editor of numerous books related to Indonesia’s rich history & culture.
  • She completed course work for a Masters in Southeast Asian studies, and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Singapore’s LaSalle College of the Arts. She has worked regularly at the Art Students League in New York City, and has exhibited her art work in several regional exhibitions.
  • Mary Jane currently runs Amertha Studios, a company focused on the re-enchantment of art & contemporary living.
  • Her special life passion is the study of world food and its relationship to culture. She has studied culinary arts at several international institutes, and is a certified chef in raw food from the renowned Living Light Institute in California.
  • Mary Jane is currently a member of the working team to establish the Bali Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, or BISA.  BISA seeks to create new opportunities through community-involved systems of organic cultivation and value-added and ecologically sustainable food processing technologies, allowing better quality fresh produce, products and services to find new and broader markets that will benefit immediate local residents, the Balinese greater community, visitors, end users, professional partners & investors.
